Cartridge Box Belts

(All Belts are made to the correct length of 64” for Union and up to 66” for Confederate)

I make all my box belts to the correct, original length stated in the US Army Regulations and according to originals. These slings will accommodate a man 6’ 4” tall with no problem. These belts make the top of your box ride below the natural waist as per the originals. All the Cartridge Box Belts are made of Oak Tanned leather and are finished according to the particular designs below.

PRE-WAR MILITIA

MCBB1 MCBB1 Militia Web Box Belt, (1820-1900) - $30.00
Web belting was an inexpensive way for a militia regiment or organization to look military with out the expense of white buff leather. Used by several state Militias North & South. This box belt is made either to button onto the back of a militia box or with a leather end to attach to the buckles on most cartridge boxes.
(Pair this up with my Pre-War Militia Enameled Cartridge Box, Militia Bayonet Scabbard, Militia Web Waist Belt, and Militia Enameled Cap Box for a complete set of Militia Accoutrements!)

UNION

USCBB1 US Regulation 1839 Box Belt, White Buff (1840-63) - $50.00

This is the Box Belt used in the army prior to and during the Mexican War and after until 1851 when the regulations changed to a black box belt. This belt was used by the Northern & Southern States to out fit their volunteers early in the war.

USCBB2 US Regulation 1861-64 Box Belt, Wax Flesh or Bridal Leather (1851-72) - $50.00
This is the standard US Box Belt used from 1851 until 1865. The edges are line embossed and there are slots cut for the Eagle plate as per the originals.
(The correct Eagle plate stamped on the original dies is available with this belt for an additional $11.)

USCBB3 US Regulation 1864, 2” wide Bridal Leather Box Belt (1864- 72) - $50.00

In 1864 the US army officially did away with the Eagle plate. Narrowed the box belt to 2 “ from the original 2 1⁄4”. Issued from 1864 until 1872 to Infantry units.

CONFEDERATE

Due to the Confederacy’s leather shortage. The CS leather belting was consequently thinner that their US counterparts. I use a 6/7 oz leather to replicate this. More pliable that the heavier US Belts, they are just as strong. The CSA also produced Painted Cloth alternatives to the leather problem, along with webbing versions as well to meet the need of the armies.

CSCBB1 Confederate Box Belt Iron Dyed Box Belt (1861-65) - $45.00
This belt is 2” wide and 66” long as per the originals examined. Plain and serviceable.

CSCBB2 Confederate Box Belt Iron Dyed Box Belt, pieced (1862-65) - $45.00
Piecing (two short pieces sewn together to make a longer one) was a common practice in the making of box belts in the south due to the leather shortage. It was in effort to conserve the precious leather needed for the war effort reflected in this reproduction.

CSCBB3 Confederate Painted Cloth Box Belt (1862-65) (Real Painted Cloth NOT Latex) - $50.00
Copied from the one used by W. F. A. Dickerson of Georgia, This belt is made of painted cotton drill with leather ends hand sewn to the ends.
(Pair this up with our Atlanta Arsenal or Columbus Arsenal belt #CSB5, our Columbus Arsenal Cartridge Box #CSCB1, Columbus Arsenal Painted Cloth Cap Box #CSPCB4, and our Painted Cloth Bayonet scabbard #CSBS2 for a complete set!)

CSCBB4 Hughes Pendergrass & Snow Web Box Belt (1862-65) - $40.00
A unique wide heavy web box belt that is incredibly strong. It saw use in the Army of Tennessee & Army of Northern Virginia.

CSCBB5 Confederate Painted Web Box Belt. (1850-65) - $40.00
Found on cartridge box ID’d to a Georgia Military Academy, this type of box belt is encountered on some sets of CS accoutrements.
