Caps

All the caps I make are made from specific originals I have personally examined. I enamel my own leather, by hand, with period correct oil paint, mixed myself for the US, State, & Militia caps. Please specify head size when ordering.

All US Caps feature Hainsworth broadcloth in their construction.

USFC1 USFC1 U.S. Forage Cap Type I (1861 –1865), G&S Manufacture - $85
This cap is copied after one in a private collection and is period machine sewn with a brown cotton lining and features a hand enameled bill, chin strap and
embossed sweatband.

USFC2 U.S. Private Purchase “Mc Dowell” Style Cap (1861 –1865) - $85
Copied from an original in a now private collection, this cap is a nice edition to your officer’s kit. Featuring a hand enameled bill, chinstrap and embossed sweatband, this cap is lined in black cotton.

USFC3 U.S. Private or State issue Chasseur Cap (Kepi) - $85

The Chasseur cap is the quintessential cap. It is just the cap you need. It was issued through some states to their troops as well as some Militia & Volunteer regiments.

USFC4 USFC4 U.S. Forage Cap Type I (1861-65), LJ & IP Manufacture - $85
Copied from the one in the Charles Hollis Collection, the original cap at one time was part of the Francis Lord Collection. It is period machine sewn with a brown polished cotton lining. With hand-enameled bill, chin strap and embossed sweatband.

USFC5 NEW!!! USFC5 U.S. 1839 Forage Cap "Wheel Cap" (1839-1859) - $110
New to our line as a regular item, this cap is totally hand-sewn as per the types 1 & 2 of this model. The bill, chin strap & sweatband are hand-enameled black with hand-mixed paint. The cap is made of fine weight blue broadcloth and is finished with your choice of the regulation cap with cape or without. This cap was also popular amongst early war organizations and in some cases was the issue cap for some stat troops North & South.

CSFC1 CSFC1 Richmond Depot Cap (1862-65) - $85
Turned out by the Richmond Depot. This cap saw heavy use in the war. It features a oil cloth covered cardboard bill as per the originals and is either made with or with out a chin strap (your choice) It is lined in osnaberg and has a hand painted oil cloth sweat band. Made exactly like the originals examined. Can be trimmed as per some originals. Please contact us for choice of fabric.

CSFC2 "Anderson" Cap (1862-65) - $85

Thought to be a product of the Columbus Depot, this cap is unique in that it was never lined and has an oilcloth sweatband. It is a simple and comfortable cap, made out of sumac dyed jeans with a glazed, pig skin covered cardboard bill with a non-functioning painted cloth chinstrap.

CSFC3 "Common" Style CS Cap (1861-65) - $85
A "no frills" cap, this style is copied from the cap identified to a soldier named A.A. Crews. It has a jean cloth body and is lined with cotton osnaberg, with an oilcloth sweatband and an iron dyed bill. A picture of this cap can be seen in Echoes of Glory: Arms and Equipment of the Confederacy.

RE-INTRODUCED!!! CSFC4 Houston Depot Cap (1862-65) - $85
Made of Blue Gray Kersey with Branch of service band and hand-glazed bill. This cap was made with or without a chin strap and was lined in osnaberg with an oil cloth sweatband. Copied from the description layed out by Capt. Wharton of the Houston Depot and from the research of Fred Adolphus, author of the Houston Clothing Depot article in the Company of Military Historian Journal, and from the conversations I have had with the author. The illustrations from "Desert to Bayou, the Diary of Morgan Wolf Merick. As well as original photos of caps that matches the description layed out by the depot report to the CS Congress of the caps & clothing being produced at the Depot.
