Union Government Issue Trousers
US Army Trousers were not necessarily the height of fashion, but were a much depended upon item of the soldier’s kit. Early in the war they were made out of dark blue wool kersey for the regular US Army. By 1862 they were made out of sky blue kersey. Issued and used from coast to coast by the Federal army they served in desert and forest alike until 1872 when the pattern changed. I make these trousers according to the originals using the correct thread, buttons and cloth. They are made in the regulation army sized waists: 32” 34” 36” & 38”.

USST1 U.S. HAND SEWN Schuylkill Depot Foot Trouser (1851-1872) - $260
These trousers are made as per the originals totally hand sewn throughout with linen thread as per the army specs. They are finished off with tin back tin buttons and inspection and size markings as per the originals Available in Dark Blue or Sky Blue Kersey. Made in waist sizes 32” 34” 36’ & 38” as per the original.
USST2 U.S. HAND SEWN Steubenville Depot Foot Trouser (1861-65) - $260
The Steubenville Clothing Depot trousers are made as per the originals totally hand sewn throughout with linen thread as per the army specs. They are finished off with tin back tin buttons and inspection and size markings as per the originals. Made in waist sizes 32” 34” 36’ & 38” as per the originals.

USST3 U.S. Unknown Contract Foot Trouser (1862-65) - $198 These unknown contract trousers are patterned along the lines of the Schuylkill trousers. Made by machine with hand-sewn buttonholes, these trousers are made of sky blue kersey with cotton drill pockets and waistband lining. I faithfully reproduce these trousers using the Wilson Pat mechanism. Buttonholes are all sewn by hand and the cuffs are finished by hand as well. These good serviceable trousers are sewn as per the originals with dark blue thread Made in waist sizes 32” 34” 36’ & 38” as per the originals. |
